Only the official document is missing
of the Ministry of Health to make everything operational thus “blocking” the decisions of the various ASL in the management of positivity
No surprise. The long-awaited green light has arrived, to the satisfaction of all parties involved. The CTS yesterday approved the protocol for team sports on the basis of the agreement recorded in the State-Regions conference. Scientists did not detect any critical issues on the prepared document, so the agreed figures were defined as congruous. The only thing missing, to make everything operational, is the chrism of the Ministry of Health which in the next few hours will issue the new circular that will become the reference text for the ASL in the management of positive cases in team sports. Should it arrive during the day, the new protocol would be operational already this weekend. But it is more likely that we have to wait until next week.
First of all there is the basic rule, which provides for the blocking of the team group if the 35% threshold of positive athletes / players is exceeded. At this point the percentage becomes a mandatory indication for the local health authorities and will prevent each one from going on their own in the face of emergency management. In short, the chaos situations of the last period that so many controversies have generated will be avoided. The objective, the text reads, is to “reduce the risk of exposure to Sars-CoV-2 of participants, for various reasons, in sports competitions, also in order to ensure the proper conduct of the competitions themselves”.
The new protocol also provides for the use of antigenic and / or molecular swabs for surveillance in compliance with the criteria already established by the Ministry of Health. In the presence of a positive case within the team group, the positive is placed in isolation, monitored and controlled according to current health regulations. The contacts defined as high risk will be subjected to antigen tests every day for at least 5 days in a row, with the obligation to wear the Ffp2 mask in all contexts in which no sports activity is carried out. The protocol applies regardless of the vaccination status, however an antigen test with negative result must be carried out 4 hours before the race. For low-risk contacts (subjects who do not come into contact with the team group, even on a non-continuous basis), the measures provided for by the ministerial indications are applied, also in relation to the vaccination status. The use of the Ffp2 mask is always recommended.
Roof to be defined
Therefore, the postponement of a race becomes official if one of the teams exceeds the 35% threshold of infected athletes. But on which figure is the calculation made? Let’s start with football: in the last hours the ceiling of the 25 athletes on which to calculate the percentage in Serie A seems to be slightly increased, reiterating that one thing is the list on which to calculate the 35%, another the squad in which to choose for example in Serie A (the 25 plus the freedom of use of the Under 21s). And besides football? The basketball league has yet to decide and communicate to the Federation the number of the squad on which to calculate the 35% ceiling (it will be between 14 and 16 athletes), volleyball has instead settled on its standard which already responds to the logic of 35%: with 4 positives you stop. As for the field of application, the new rules will certainly affect the national championships, but the upcoming circular from the Ministry of Health will help to understand if the new regulation will also apply to regional and provincial championships. Obviously, the more you drop in category, the more you fear organizational complications for the daily tests to be carried out for high-risk contacts.
