The 62-year-old suspect, who was arrested shortly after the stabbing in a flat on Sluitersveldsingel in Almelo last Tuesday, will remain in pre-trial detention for fourteen days longer. That is what the investigating judge decided today.
A 22-year-old Almeloër was killed in the stabbing. Alerted officers resuscitated the man on the spot, but to no avail. His 20-year-old girlfriend was injured, but she is doing reasonably well under the circumstances.
According to local residents, something has happened more than once between the victim and the suspect who are neighbours. The 62-year-old has been causing nuisance for a long time. The morning before the drama took place, the man was still screaming on his balcony, local residents know.
Because the suspect is in so-called restrictions, he is not allowed to communicate freely with the outside world. This is to prevent the investigation from being obstructed.
“He is doing reasonably well under the circumstances, despite the sad circumstances,” says lawyer Febroniya Atto. “I can say nothing more about it.”
One of the victims recorded a video from the hall in the apartment house before the stabbing. In this, a man can be heard threatening the couple from the stairwell, this would be the voice of the suspect. Among other things, he says: “I get you. It’s you or me.”
The images are now circulating on the internet and are also in the possession of the police. The video will be included in the investigation, a police spokesperson said.
Relatives and the girlfriend of the deceased man are calling on not to share anything about the crime or the victim on social media until they choose to do so themselves. “We want peace to be able to give this terrible loss a place,” they write in a statement.
