Shin Tae-yong gave sky-high appreciation to the Indonesian national team players after becoming runners-up in the 2020 AFF Cup. Although it was acknowledged that the Indonesian squad had promising potential, there were several things that he thought were less impressive than the Indonesian players.
The South Korean coach mentioned three things that Indonesian players lack. According to him, the three things are mentality as a professional player, then the problem of food consumption, and also about the burden of body mass.
It was ultimately not meant to be for ?? Indonesia as they came up just short in their quest to finally win the @affsuzukicup.
But @ gabetan13 believes the future looks bright for an exciting young side under Shin Tae-yong. #AFFSuzukiCup #AFFSuzukiCup2020 #RivalriesNeverDie pic.twitter.com/qcFLq1nl20

“Honestly, the first is a lack of professional mentality. The second is a problem with food, and the third is about lifting weights [weight training]. They don’t understand why they have to lift weights,” said Tae-yong when he was a guest on Deddy Corbuzier’s Youtube channel.
“Lifting weights is very important to strengthen. Playing ball must be hard and rely on the body, if we lose the body, we certainly can’t bring out our abilities. After I came, I felt that there were a lot of Indonesian people who didn’t understand why they had to do weight training,” he explained.
“Fried rice, fried, players should eat a lot of protein, too much carbohydrates. I came and changed it, and now it’s better.”
“If I’m at the training camp (training center), I can change it. But when they come back to the team, it’s difficult for me to control it. Actually, players must be aware of themselves as professionals,” he added.
