Soda bottles, huge mugs and even water bottles were filled with draft beer from the cafe in Heino. In total, about 500 liters of draft beer could be given away.

Visitors were asked to donate to the local Fonds voor Ons. For example, the ailing hospitality sector helps people who are having a hard time financially.
500 liter
“This lockdown is costing us a lot of money. You also see that with industry peers,” says Marlinde Baarslag, owner of the cafe. “We have kegs of beer here that have already been opened, but that have expired when we can open again. That is about 500 liters, with a value of up to 1500 euros.”
I hear a lot of suffering behind the front doors
These quantities of beer have therefore already been purchased, but can no longer be sold to customers. The financial loss has already been incurred. But Marlinde doesn’t stop there. She tries to make something positive out of this.
Fund for Us
“I also hear a lot of suffering behind front doors of, for example, minimum wages. That is why we decided to tap the beer for free. That is still possible, because the beer is still good. We ask visitors to make a donation to Fonds van Ons, a good cause in this area.”
Fonds voor Ons is an emergency fund for all residents of the municipality of Raalte who need urgent help.
Dafne Holterman of Fonds voor Ons is happy with it: “This is a very nice promotion. I don’t like the reason, the lockdown that affects the catering industry. But I think it’s very nice to see that Marlinde has it like this to run. With the proceeds we can help many people in the area.”
Not only Fonds voor Ons, but also the visitors are enthusiastic. “Free beer, you don’t see that often,” laughs a boy who drinks a beer with his group of friends outside. Fresh from the tap. “Tastes good”, is the verdict.
