The abuses suffered, the role of the video coach, the leaders of the company who cover up the investigation, the courage of an athlete who has not given up on prejudices and what his story teaches us
In sexual abuse stories the victim is always helpless. It is the narrative that demands it, that has accustomed us to the disparity of forces in the field. Small and vulnerable, or small and vulnerable, it changes little, at the mercy of the brute on duty there is always a subtle soul, unable to protect itself due to its own structural deficiencies. Crushed, overwhelmed, submissive: behind this thousands of years old stereotype hides a retrograde and deeply dangerous mentality, which draws heavily on the machismo that is also imbued with the world of sport. Only fragile humans are sexually abused, because for the robust and strong, being forced to do what you don’t want to do is simply unacceptable. Because those should be able to stand up for themselves, and if they can’t, then the shame is double: there is the violence suffered and there is demonstrated ineptitude.
