Due to the contagious omikron variant, some healthcare workers demanded the special mask instead of the surgical masks.
Moisture particles in the air
That is why Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge wants to offer employers in the care sector room for more use of FFP2 masks. He therefore makes many more FFP2 masks available at a cheaper rate.
According to the Outbreak Management Team and the Federation of Medical Specialists, an FFP2 mask is only necessary for actions in which a lot of moisture particles are released into the air. That would be especially in hospitals. For other actions, surgical masks are sufficient. Nevertheless, there was a demand for the FFP2 masks among some healthcare workers.
Certain period
Healthcare institutions can buy the FFP2 mask from 4 to 18 January at a greatly reduced rate from the National Resources Consortium.
Minister Hugo de Jonge: “All healthcare workers must feel safe when they do their job. The availability of FFP2 masks can contribute to this. That is why we are making it possible to temporarily purchase these masks at a lower price.”
