Sevilla has recovered in the Spanish football league from Wednesday’s painful elimination in the Champions League. The team of coach Julen Lopetegui won at Athletic Club (0-1) and thus strengthened the second place in La Liga, 5 points behind leader Real Madrid.
Thomas Delaney took the only hit and the Danish midfielder did it beautifully. Delaney placed the ball high into the far corner with his left foot. Goalkeeper Unai Simón couldn’t reach it anymore. It was the first goal for Delaney, who played for Borussia Dortmund last season.
Former PSV player Karim Rekik and former Ajax player Nemanja Gudelj came in for Sevilla in the second half to defend the lead. They did that successfully.
Sevilla lost 1-0 to Red Bull Salzburg during the last round of play in the group stage of the Champions League on Wednesday and must continue as number 3 in the Europa League after the winter break.
