“Last time I did I cried,” Vishal Garg, the owner of Better.com, said in the video call.
‘A terrible move’
The conversation was recorded by one of the employees and posted on social media, where it quickly went viral. Users thought it was ‘cold’, ‘hard’ and ‘a terrible move’, especially in the run-up to Christmas.
“I wish I had other news,” Garg is said to have said during the conversation, according to foreign media. Due to ‘staff performance’ and changes in the market, 15 percent of the staff had to leave.
Garg is also said to have written an anonymous blog expressing his displeasure with staff’s lack of productivity. By working just two hours a day, some of the employees would “steal” from colleagues and customers, the owner wrote. magazine Fortune.
This isn’t the first time Garg has come under fire for his attitude toward staff. For example, he is said to have written an e-mail to employees in block letters last year in which he tells them that they are ‘too slow’ and ‘shame him’.
