His father, mother, brother and grandparents had died in the drama in May. His Italian aunt was given custody of the boy, but the Israeli side of the family disagreed. They say that Eitan’s parents had always wanted the boy to grow up in Israel.
Take matters into your own hands
After losing a custody battle, they decided to take matters into their own hands. On a family visit, Eitan was taken by his grandfather. He was taken to Israel on a private jet and Israeli passport.
There, the highest court ruled this week that this was a kidnapping, and that the boy had to return to Italy. This ended a months-long legal battle.
14 of the gondola’s 15 occupants were killed in the cable car accident. It crashed after the main cable broke. The accident took place near Mottarone. That is a popular holiday area, also among the Dutch.
