1. FSV Mainz 05 currently have some defense concerns. Sports director Martin Schmidt revealed to the public that no newcomers are planned in the winter transfer window as of today.
With Anderson Lucoqui and Jeremiah St. Juste, the Mainz team lost two important players due to injuries this season. Both professionals are unlikely to be able to play a game this calendar year.
While Lucoqui can be expected back at the beginning of the new year, according to sports director Martin Schmidt, St. Juste will also be absent at the beginning of the second half.
“We assumed a three to four month break and they probably will,” said Schmidt, referring to the complete absence of the regular central defender. St. Juste’s shoulder was injured in October and he was operated on in mid-October. The 25-year-old is currently in rehab in his home in the Netherlands.
Despite the injury problems, Schmidt trusts the squad and all players who are currently able to play. “At the moment there are no new signings planned for the winter,” said Schmidt image.
“Stefan Bell was only missing in Stuttgart now,” said the Swiss. With him you have four central defenders and you also trust the rest of the squad. Bell missed the 2-1 defeat in Stuttgart last Friday because of his fifth yellow card.
In addition to Bell, Mainz coach Bo Svensson can also rely on Moussa Niakhate, Alexander Hack and David Nemeth in the defense center.
