The Club World Cup is one of the most interesting tournaments that exist since in this competition the best teams from each of the different confederations face each other. Currently, the seven teams that will compete in the 2021 edition in the United Arab Emirates are already defined. After winning the final of the Concacaf Champions League, Rayados de Monterrey will be the representative of Mexican and local soccer at the event.
These are the aspects that you should know about this club tournament that brings together the best exponents of each confederation.
The tournament will take place between February 3 and 12, 2022 in the United Arab Emirates. Normally this competition is held in December, but due to the conditions derived from the pandemic, it was postponed to the beginning of next year. Japan was the original headquarters, but COVID-19 restrictions prevented this possibility.
With the triumph of Palmeiras in the Copa Libertadores, the last ticket to the tournament was defined. In addition to the representative of Conmebol, the tournament will include Rayados de Monterrey, champion of the Concacaf Champions League; Chelsea, champion of the UEFA Champions League; Al Hilal, an Arab team that won the Asian Champions League; Al Ahly, the Egyptian team that won the African Champions League; Auckland City, elected representative by its confederation after the cancellation of its tournament by COVID-19; and Al Jazira, representative of the United Arab Emirates, winner of the Arab Gulf League.
This will be the fifth time that Monterrey has played the Club World Cup. The Monterrey team will seek to emulate the performance of Tigres last year and go to the grand final. In 2012 and 2019 the Rayados obtained third place in the competition. The Albiazules made a great game to Liverpool, European champions, in their most recent participation.
In the first round of the tournament they will face Al Jazira and Auckland City. The winner of this match will face Al-Hilal in the second round. Rayados will face Al-Ahly in the quarterfinals of the tournament. In case of advancing, Monterrey would face Palmeiras, a team that Tigres beat in the last edition of the competition to reach the final. Chelsea will face the winner of the other key, either Al Hilal, Al Jazira or Auckland City.
