Gurney got off to a great start and immediately broke Searle. With this, ‘SuperChin’ went into the first interruption with a 3-2 lead. In the second session, Searle tied the score but couldn’t prevent Gurney from taking a 6-4 lead.
After the second break, Searle took matters into his own hands and won a whopping five legs in a row, taking him one leg from victory. Still, Gurney managed to fight back and force a decisive leg.
In this final leg it was Gurney who was on tops after twelve darts. Still, the former Major-winner was not allowed to put up with this, as Searle closed the game via a 104 finish.
Dolan surprises again
Searle will face Brendan Dolan tonight for a place in the final. The Northern Irishman stunted against Gerwyn Price yesterday and surprisingly won this afternoon against José de Sousa, the number one on the placement list.
‘The History Maker’ flew out of the starting blocks and quickly managed to get a 4-0 lead. The fifth leg went in the direction of De Sousa, but then it was Dolan’s turn again to take three legs in a row. Via a rebreak, De Sousa narrowed the gap to 7-3, after which the following three legs went with the darts. In the fourteenth leg, Dolan broke again and won the game 10-4. For the 48-year-old darts player, it is the first time that he is in the last four at the Players Championship Finals.
