Although cricket is not a particularly popular sport in the world, it is undeniable that it has a large enough fan base to justify the development of simulators inspired by it. Unfortunately, the most recent exponent of this sports genre suffered a slight delay due to the scandal experienced by one of the athletes who appear in the game.
In case you did not know, Cricket 22 was going to debut on November 25. However, Big Ant Studios, the company responsible for the project, had to take drastic measures at the last minute and announced on its social networks that it was necessary to delay the title a few days after its official launch.

“Unfortunately, factors beyond our control have meant that we needed to update the game’s cover, other images, and team rosters (…) As a result, we made the difficult decision to delay the game’s release for a week on all platforms, both physical and digital format “, reads the statement of the study.
Why did Cricket 22 move its release date?
The delay was an unfortunate consequence of the scandal involving Tim Paine, an Australian cricket captain who was to be one of the leading figures on the cover of Cricket 22 together with Meg Lanning.
A couple of weeks ago it came to light that Tim Paine sent suggestive photographs to a co-worker without her consent. The incident reportedly took place in 2017, but it wasn’t until 2018 that a misconduct investigation was carried out after the woman filed a formal complaint.

At the time, the local cricket authorities determined that the exchange of photographs was “consensual”, for which the Australian captain was acquitted. Once the case was made public a few days ago, the athlete resigned from his position as captain.
With the controversy underway, Pat Cummins, vice captain of Australia’s men’s cricket team, will be the one to appear on the cover of Cricket 22, a title that, after being delayed, will now hit stores on December 2.
