Very logical, of course, that there is more household to do with an extra person in the house. Still, the extra 7 hours is very striking. Men indicate that they spend one hour less on the household when they start living with a woman.
In the past, the woman was responsible for the household, and apparently this is still the case in many households. Because now that women also work a lot, 56% of women still indicate that they do the majority of the household, where only 10% of men say they do this. This is also in line with how the men and women view the distribution. More than half of the men (52%) admit that their wives take care of most of the household. According to the women, this is only 6% for their men. Oops, not quite evenly distributed.
A young, single woman spends about 12 hours a week on the household. When a man comes into the house, this becomes a lot longer, but it can be even worse. Married (or cohabiting) women with 3 or more children spend even more time on the household. They spend an average of 28 (!) hours a week on the household.
