That it was not discovered before is because the cactus sings the song in Polish. The toy could be set to three languages, English, Spanish and Polish. Only in Polish did the ‘Dancing Cactus Toy’, as it could be ordered on Walmart’s website, sang the tune that turned out to be unsuitable for children.
It was discovered by a Polish woman in Ontario, Canada, who bought the cactus as a gift for her granddaughter. “This thing uses swear words and talks about cocaine use,” Ania Tanner told Canada’s CTV News. “That’s not what I ordered for my granddaughter. When I started listening and heard the words, I was shocked. I thought it was some kind of joke.”
The cactus was also complained about on Twitter. A woman who bought the toy for her daughter posted a video of the cactus in action. “So it turns out to be singing a song about cocaine addiction???”, she writes in the message.
The song that the cactus sings is said to have been written by the Polish rapper Cypis. In his text he talks about the use of coke and suicide. “The only thing in my head is five grams of cocaine, I’m flying alone, on my way to oblivion“, according to a translation of the New York Post, he would rap.
Made in China
The rapper would not know anything about the use of his song in the dancing, singing cacti, which are said to have been made in China.
Walmart says it takes customer complaints seriously. “These products were offered by a third party on our website,” a spokesperson told CTV News. “We are removing the product from the store while we further investigate the complaints.”
