PSV beat Sturm Graz from Austria on Thursday evening. In the Philips Stadium, the Eindhoven team won 2-0. The first goal was scored just before half-time from a penalty kick used by Brazilian striker Carlos Vinícius. Bruma then made it 2-0. Whether PSV overwinters in the Europa League or is active in the Conference League after the winter depends on the last match day, when the Eindhoven team visits Real Sociedad, which lost 2-1 to AS Monaco on Thursday evening.
AZ visited Jablonec in the Czech Republic, knowing that a draw would be enough for the winter in the Conference League. After the Czechs opened the score via Miloš Kratochvíl, Norwegian Håkon Evjen equalized for AZ. It eventually remained 1-1, as a result of which the Alkmaarders assured themselves of European football after the winter break.
Feyenoord and Vitesse play a draw
Earlier in the evening, Feyenoord also qualified for the next round of the Conference League. They also did that in the Czech Republic, in the capital Prague. The Rotterdam team had enough of a draw to qualify for the last sixteen of the European football tournament and they succeeded with 2-2. Vitesse also drew at the same time, thus keeping the option open: a visit to Stade Rennais made it 3-3.
The team from Rotterdam fell behind early in the game with a goal from Peter Olayinka. After a strong phase, it was Cyriel Dessers who scored the equalizer, having previously replaced the injured Bryan Linssen. Just before half time Feyenoord got Guus Til red for a rash tackle. After the break, Slavia Prague took the lead again via Jan Kuchta. Dessers, also the maker of the 1-1, brought Feyenoord to a draw again in injury time.
Vitesse had a difficult task: they had to beat Stade Rennais to keep an eye on the winter. After just nine minutes, the team from Arnhem was already behind, thanks to a goal from Gaëtan Laborde. The same Laborde doubled the lead just before half time. Daan Huisman then did something back by shooting in the 2-1, but Vitesse was unable to come back further. After the break, Laborde made it 3-1, then Thomas Buitink and Loïs Openda scored two more goals for Vitesse.
