AZ has made it to the eighth finals of the Conference League, UEFA’s new European tournament. The formation of trainer Pascal Jansen is certainly first in the group, after the draw (1-1) at FK Jablonec.
The Czechs took the lead after just 7 minutes. Milos Kratochvil extended a free kick from Jan Krob with the head and saw the ball go over goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen with a curious arc.
AZ only had some opportunities towards the end of the first half. That led to shots from Jordy Clasie and Vangelis Pavlidis, who were both still blocked.
Then the increased pressure did result in the equalizing goal. Håkon Evjen, who had been preferred over Albert Gudmundsson as a basic player, made the goal on a pass from Pavlidis.
Even after the restart, the game more or less continued. There was a nice attempt by Jesper Karlsson, but he just failed to surprise goalkeeper Jan Hanuš with a bow. Clasie shot hard, but somewhat ‘wild’ wide. On the other hand, however, the Alkmaarders gave away almost no opportunities.
Jaroslav Zelený of the home team escaped red in the middle of the second half, after a serious foul on Evjen. Strangely enough, the Austrian referee Manuel Schüttengruber was given a yellow card. The Norwegian attacker was injured a few minutes later.
