Ofir Marciano defends Feyenoord’s goal on Thursday in the away match against Slavia Prague in the Conference League. The 32-year-old goalkeeper from Israel replaces Justin Bijlow, who has been quarantined after a positive corona test.
“That was a bit of a shock,” said trainer Arne Slot to Bijlow’s positive test. “You immediately think who else? We have tested everyone again because we want to prevent that no boys go to the Czech Republic without complaints who eventually turn out to be infected. But during my period at AZ I also almost became an expert in corona matters. At one point we had 14 players with corona, so I know that anything can happen in the next 10 days. Let’s hope not.”
Feyenoord took over Marciano from Hibernian on a free transfer last summer. The Israeli came into the picture after the departure of Nick Marsman. Marciano defended his national team’s goal earlier this month in duels with Faroe Islands and Austria.
