Car manufacturers are doing everything they can to draw attention to their new model. Besides the fact that marketing agencies use social media and magazines to advertise, television has been a popular stage for car advertisements for years.
We dug into the archives and read all your reactions under part 1. From this we selected the most talked-about and funniest commercials that have ever been shown on television. Today part 2!
The five funniest car commercials:
1. Peugeot 206 – Elephant sits on car
For the first car commercial, we travel to India where a Hindustan Ambassador – an Indian classic – is smashed to pieces by its owner and driven into a wall. An elephant even sits on the car!
After hours of hammering, welding and tinkering, the Indian tinkerer has recreated his dream model, the Peugeot 206.
2. Jaguar – Mercedes-statue
Between 2013 and 2015 there was a real advertising battle between Mercedes and Jaguar. The two brands tricked each other several times. One of the funniest commercials from this battle is that of the Mercedes chicken, made by Jaguar.
The Jaguar likes the Mercedes chicken raw. If we look at the humor level, the Germans certainly didn’t win against the British, but that’s no surprise. Did the Germans make the better car?
3. Mercedes A 45 AMG – 3 wishes
In this commercial, an unsuspecting young man drives a Mercedes A 45 AMG in the depths of the night on lonely roads in a dark forest. Until suddenly a fairy shows up and gives the driver the chance to wish three things.
If we were asked that question, we could name a few cars that we would rather have on our doorstep today than tomorrow. That does not apply to the Mercedes driver. He seems to want nothing more than his AMG, as he chooses to have the fairy step aside.
You want this occasion: Mazda RX-7 FB, more than a special powertrain
4. Holland Casino – Opel Kadett B Coupé
Not only car brands use cars and speed in their commercials. State participation Holland Casino uses a – not so neat – Opel Kadett B coupé in their commercial. The car is stopped, but the driver is not honest about the speed driven.
Instead of saying, “No, I wasn’t speeding”, or “sorry, I was just driving with traffic”, the driver says he was driving 230 kilometers per hour. A speed that is not even possible for the Opel Kadett 2.0 GSi.
5. Audi R8 – The Hostage
De thrillerfilm Hostage from 2005 was a great source of inspiration for the car advertising for Audi’s marketing department. In a tense scene, the Audi R8 is held hostage and at gunpoint.
The officer then puts his weapon on the ground, after which all car enthusiasts can breathe freely.
