It is no secret to anyone that the relationship between Take-Two and the modders of Grand Theft Auto it has not been good for several years now. The situation worsened when the company began removing various mods to Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas.
As the community assumed, this move was made due to the launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Definitive Edition. This prompted several modders to voluntarily withdraw their work for fear of a lawsuit from the studio.
However, a group of modders decided not to sit idly by at the closure of their projects, so they faced Take-Two with a counterclaim. This after Rockstar will initiate legal proceedings against him in September.

Modders de GTA start another legal battle against Take-Two
Rockstar demanded months ago the group of modders to remove their entire project from platforms such as GitHub and compensation of up to $ 300,000 USD for the use of their licenses and “for irreparable damage to Take-Two.”
The modders in question reverse-engineered several installments of the series, including Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This did not please the companies, least of all due to the imminent release of the remasters.
Instead of leaving everything for peace, the modders filed a counterclaim on November 12. In it they point out that all their work was done under the fair use of the United States Copyright Law.
It is also noted that Take-Two has supported the development of mods for its franchises in the past and that the use of copyrighted material was minimal on most occasions.
As of this writing, it is not clear what will happen in the case, as Take-Two was clear in sending cease-and-desist orders to the group of modders. All of this happens as players fix various details of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy Definitive Edition that left much to be desired.
