PSV must turn off the gas heating above the stands in the Philips stadium. According to the Brabant football club, the annual inspection showed that the safety of the heating system can no longer be guaranteed. Since replacing the system costs a lot of money and the municipality of Eindhoven wants to ban gas heaters in the center of the city from 2023, PSV has decided to remove the heaters that hang above the stands.
A few years ago, PSV had to turn off the heating in the stadium because the heaters no longer met the safety rules. The supporters were out in the cold for several months in the winter of the 2017-2018 season. After the necessary adjustments, the gas heaters hanging from the eaves were allowed to turn on again.
In the coming weeks, there will be no public in the Philips stadium anyway. All sports matches must be played without spectators until at least December 4. PSV will play against Vitesse on Saturday and will receive Sturm Graz in the Europa League next week. The clubs in professional football are considering postponing the competition matches, so that they can possibly be played with an audience at a later time.
