Michael van Gerwen also convincingly won his third group match in the Grand Slam of Darts. The three-time world champion settled with John Henderson 5-1 and goes to the eighth finals as group winner.
Earlier in the tournament, Van Gerwen won 5-0 against Lisa Ashton and 5-2 against Joe Cullen. In that second match, De Brabander set a tournament record with an average score of 115.19.
Van Gerwen said he played “not sparkling” against Henderson. “But I win and that’s the most important thing. I think I wanted to show something beautiful too much and that was not necessary at all. But throwing out the match with 125 was fun,” he said on RTL7.
Van Gerwen won the tournament three times: in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The main prize this year is 125,000 English pounds (148,000 euros).
