It closes with an archiving for Matteo Salvini, the judicial aftermath of the quarrel with the then Minister of Education Lucia Azzolina on the story that saw her accused of having copied parts of her thesis for the specialization degree obtained in 2009 at the University of Pisa. This was decided by the investigating judge of Milan Roberto Crepaldi, accepting the request made by the prosecutor.
The clash between Azzolina and Salvini was born on January 12, 2020, when the leader of the League after the publication of the news by La Repubblica took up the article and commented on it on social networks. “Doing worse than Minister Fioramonti seemed impossible. And instead Azzolina amazes us: not only does she take sides against the precarious, but now we discover that she also copies the degree theses. Such a minister has no right to give (and do) lessons. Crazy stuff. Be ashamed and go home, ”Salvini had written in post then removed. “Do not be fooled, it is not plagiarism: just nonsense”, replied the former minister of the M5s, then considering those slanderous phrases against him. Then came the decision to sue the leader of the League as well as the journalist who wrote the article and the newspaper.
At the outcome of the investigations, the Milan prosecutor, who dealt only with the area in which Salvini was investigated, did not recognize any defamation. Basically, it was not the responsibility of the former Minister of the Interior to verify the veracity of the content of the article and furthermore the expressions against Azzolina were part of the right of political criticism which, however harsh, never resulted in personal insult. A thesis that was shared by the judge for the preliminary investigations who in recent days ordered the filing.
