After the success achieved on the Mexican circuit Rodriguez Brothers, in turn indicated as favorable to the technical characteristics of the Red Bull, the same team could impose its leadership also in the next GP of San Paolo. Here, in fact, the track of Interlagos – placed on high ground, exactly like that of Mexico City – would guarantee an advantage to the Austrian team, which comes to Brazil with the main objective of increasing the gap between Verstappen and Hamilton in the drivers’ championship. Furthermore, in the event of a positive result, the Milton Keynes team could also overtake Mercedes rivals in the constructors’ standings, with the two teams now divided by a single point.
Among those who indicate Red Bull as the strongest candidate for victory at the circuit named after José Carlos Pace is also the former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle. The British, now TV commentator for Sky Sports, expressed his opinion on the outcome of the next round of the 2021 championship: “There are 107 points still available – he analyzed – as we head to Brazil, where the third and final Sprint qualifying of the season will be held. Among other things, we will have to pay attention to the first corner, where all the cars will concentrate in a very narrow space. Red Bull is probably the favorite in sight of San Paolo, thanks to the ups and downs and the 765 meters of altitude. Once the test is over, the calendar will feature two completely new and unknown places to F1, such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Finally, a possible showdown in Abu Dhabi will follow, a track that is now 10 seconds faster per lap and more fluid than before ”.
Therefore, according to Brundle, Brazil will be able to offer a probable and valuable ‘assist’ to Red Bull in the fight for the title. Yet, again according to the former Benetton driver, there may still be elements that would call everything into question: “Verstappen has won on all the high-altitude circuits this season – he concluded – as in Mexico, the two stages in Austria and Spa. This underlines why we can expect a very strong Red Bull also in Brazil. However, the weather conditions of Interlagos will be able to offer unpredictable races“.
