It happens quite often that cars are actually a bit faster than in the brochure. The specified specifications must be achievable under almost all circumstances. Usually the conditions (dry, pleasant temperature) are a bit ideal. In addition, car brands prefer that customers be pleasantly surprised than that they put nasty things on the internet. For example, the BMW M4 turns out to be much more powerful. But with the 5 Series, the opposite was true. Fortunately, that has now been resolved: the BMW M550i has become faster.
The 0-100 time of the BMW M550i is according to the factory 3.8 seconds thanks to the power of 530 hp and four-wheel drive. However, the American came Car and Driver in a trial impossible at that time. They could not get the 5 Series in less than 4 seconds to 100 km / h. That in itself is not a disaster, but with the BMW X5 M50i it did succeed, while that car is heavier and has the same power. BMW investigated the matter and concluded that something was indeed not quite right.
BMW M550i accelerates software update
The cause was found to be in the ESP. The stability system restrained the engine by removing turbocharger from the V8. It looks like the car was parked too safely. BMW developed a software update to make the reins a bit more celebrated. Car and Driver restarted and recorded a 0-96 (0-60 miles) of 3.5 seconds. That is 0.6 seconds faster to the 100 km / h than first. A serious improvement. We asked BMW Nederland whether the BMW M550is in the Netherlands also included and whether the update will also come here. We’ll update this message as soon as we respond.
