Despite the lack of news, the sequel to Lara Croft’s film reboot is still in development.
Even before the premiere of the first film, Alicia Vikander showed her desire to repeat as Lara Croft in a sequel to Tomb Raider. This film was confirmed in 2019 with a release date of March 2021. Then the pandemic arrived and the project was left on the air, but according to the Oscar-winning Danish actress, everything is still underway and is currently holding talks for its development.
In a chat with Total Film collected by GamesRadar, Vikander tells how he has had video calls with Misha Green, his current director, during these months. “When Misha was mentioned to me and I saw the work at Lovecraft Country, I was very impressed. [Con ella] Can I talk about great action scenes and stunts what we want to do. I hope this can straighten out and do things together. “
These last statements do not seem to make it clear that there is a huge interest from MGM to give priority to the sequel, despite the interest of the actress to make the film, leaving us from time to time statements in a positive sense. A new project under the direction of Misha Green, a Birds of Prey spin-off starring Black Canary, was also confirmed this summer, so it’s unclear if the Lovecraft Country showrunner will still be aboard Tomb Raider 2.
About this adaptation, it was reported at the time the interest of those responsible for adapting the last two games of the series, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, for this new film, although there may have been changes along the way.
Tomb Raider hit the big screen in March 2021, grossing $ 274 million on a budget of $ 94 million. In critics there was everything, with a 52% valuation on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.3 from the users of the IMDB portal.
