Juan Mata is likely to leave Manchester United during the winter break. The Spaniard hardly gets a chance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
This summer, Mata had extended his contract with the Red Devils for another year, although he had only appeared 17 times in the preseason. With his experience, the 33-year-old should be an important point of contact for the many talents in the United squad – but Mata continues to lose ground in terms of sport.
At the start of the season, he was only allowed to play in the insignificant Carabao Cup for an hour, otherwise Mata was not granted another minute of play in the Premier League or Champions League. The 2010 World Cup winner was called up in five of six league games, but that could soon be over as Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Amad will soon be back from injuries and Mata will contest the place.
Mata’s only real chance of regular appearances would have been the Carabao Cup – but there the English record champion was eliminated 1-0 against West Ham United.
According to Manchester Evening News the 33-year-old is therefore seriously considering leaving for the winter. By next summer at the latest, you don’t have to be too great an expert, Mata’s time at Old Trafford is up anyway.
The fine left-footed player moved from Chelsea to the Red Devils for 45 million euros in the winter of 2014 and has so far scored 51 goals in 274 games for United.
