An armed man and a teenager broke into a residence on Friday night in Itanhaém, on the coast of São Paulo, and shot a 44-year-old mason, who was working on the renovation of the house, in addition to the owner of the property and her two daughters — the the girls’ father was not on the property.
The service provider and the owner’s eldest daughter, 17, died a few hours after the crime. Both had head injuries, according to information from the Military Police and the hospital that treated them.
The injured mason was tied up when the PM team arrived at the scene. The victims were rescued by the police and taken to the Regional Hospital of Itanhaém. The assailants fled in the family’s car and were captured hours later in a townhouse.
His wife and youngest daughter, 12 years old, survived and were transferred to the Hospital Irmã Dulce, in Praia Grande. The mother had to be transferred again to a hospital in the city of São Paulo, and the doctors informed her that her condition is stable.
The girl today underwent emergency surgery and must also be transferred to a hospital in São Paulo. Her condition is serious, according to the report found at the Hospital Irmã Dulce.
A surveillance camera installed on Francisco Teodoro Ramos street, in the Suarão neighborhood, where the crime took place, shows the moment when two suspects walk towards the family’s residence. A silver vehicle, which the police suspected was used to provide cover for criminals, also passes down the street, in the opposite direction.
Vehicle helped in the search for suspects
After helping the victims, the military police began searching for the perpetrators of the crime. Information received by the police indicated that the suspects were staying in a pension in the city, in the Ivoty neighborhood.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the two suspects in the robbery. One of them is a minor and the other, 22 years old, who, according to the police, even confessed to the PMs that he had shot at the victims, had already been through the police and was wanted for theft. He had benefited from a Christmas “outing” but did not return to the prison on the agreed date.
According to police, he said he shot because the victims — the bricklayer and the mother of the teenagers — would have reacted. With the pair, a weapon, cell phones, watches and jewelry were seized.
The car was stopped by the Military Police at km 322 of the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega highway, heading towards São Paulo. A man and two women who were in the vehicle are suspected of participating in the robbery. According to information from the PM, the five involved in the crime are residents of the neighborhood of Grajaú, in the south of São Paulo.
In a statement, the SSP (Secretary of Public Security of the State of São Paulo) informed that the two detainees are 20 and 26 years old, respectively, and the man detained in the car is 27 years old.
The SSP also said that the suspects found at the inn reported the location of the car where the rest of the group was. “The 22-year-old suspect confessed to being the perpetrator of the shooting. The weapon used in the crime — a .38-caliber revolver — was seized from them, as was the key to a car they had previously taken.”
According to the agency, the case was registered as robbery, an offense for the same crime, attempted robbery, capture of wanted, arrest of a teenager and corruption of a minor in the city’s permanent duty, and forwarded to the 3rd DP, which will continue the investigations.
Theft is considered a heinous crime and carries a penalty of 20 to 30 years of imprisonment and a fine.
