The police arrested nine men in Eindhoven on Thursday on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack. This is reported by the Public Prosecution Service. The nine would also be training for the possible attack. According to the Public Prosecution Service, they adhere to the ideas of the extremist movement ISIS.
The arrests are the result of an investigation that started this summer on the basis of information from intelligence service AIVD. The suspects, all between the ages of 18 and 31, have Dutch nationality. One of them was born in Afghanistan. In addition to preparing an attack, they are suspected of participating in a terrorist organisation.
No weapons or explosives were found when the men’s homes were searched, but computers and hard drives were seized. The suspects were brought before the examining magistrate in Rotterdam this Friday. Pending the investigation into their plans and motives, they are only allowed to have contact with their lawyers.
