Failing to sign Jules Kunde from Sevilla in the 2021 summer transfer window, Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, in fact still shows his ambition to bring in a new defense sector.
According to a report by Mirror Football, the Blues are monitoring the progress of Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt’s performance this season before trying to make an official offer.
Currently, Chelsea does not seem to need to bring in a new defender anymore. Because, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger are in their best condition which has helped the team keep four clean sheets from the last five matches.
However, Tuchel reasoned that he wanted to bring in a new face because he was not sure whether Silva, Christensen and Rudiger would continue their careers at Stamford Bridge, considering that his contract would expire in June 2022.
Therefore, seeing that De Ligt, who is still 22 years old, is the main factor why the defending Champions League champions team, it is increasingly clear that they are interested in being able to use his services.
In fact, the Blues can easily get his signature next season if they are willing to activate the Dutch passport defender’s release clause which is worth 103 million pounds.
