The behavior of track runners affects the entire chain of the rail system, ProRail reports. “They are startled, brake and following trains are instructed by traffic control to drive past at a walking pace to prevent accidents. In 2019, there were 3,289 cases of track walking. That amounted to an increase of 3 percent compared to the previous year and even 13 percent compared to 2015.
