What was the discussion about Borussia Dortmund’s new Champions League jersey! Supplier Puma has now commented on this. CEO Björn Gulden apologizes and wants to take the feedback from BVB fans seriously.
The past few days must have been restless at the sporting goods manufacturer Puma. The criticism of the new third jerseys was great. Especially in the BVB warehouse after the new part was officially presented shortly before the first premier class game against Besiktas.
Before that, there were already some leaks through the network – which left many black and yellow supporters somewhat shocked. The reason for the big criticism of the new BVB jersey was the lack of the club crest on the chest. Instead, the word “BVB 09” is denounced across the sponsor’s logo.
Initially, the lettering “Dortmund” is said to have been planned there. But after the considerable expressions of displeasure, one seems to have reacted at least somewhat. The BVB logo is embossed on the chest, albeit in the same neon yellow as the rest of the jersey and so hardly recognizable.
This makes the BVB part an upgrade to the third jersey of other Puma clubs. At Man City or Borussia Mönchengladbach there is no longer any club crest on the chest.
Puma CEO Björn Gulden has now responded to the clear criticism of the past few days dpa reacted. “We regret the anger of the fans and would like to apologize to them,” said the former professional footballer.
“The criticism of the fans refers to the fact that the BVB logo is simply incorporated into the material tone on tone several times and is embossed on the shirt chest, but is not clearly highlighted as the club’s coat of arms,” he summed up.
Gulden promised: “We have really taken the feedback to heart and will take it into account for future jerseys – just like in the past.”
Borussia Dortmund extended the long-term contract with Puma until 2028 in November 2019. The deal should bring BVB a total of around 250 million euros. From the supplier’s point of view, it would be a good idea to forego polarizing experiments in the coming season. Otherwise the next wave of criticism threatens.
