Kawasaki had and still has a higher-quality SE version in its range of many models, but not the Z900. However, that is now changing, with that SE (Special Edition) mainly translates into ‘sporty’.
Anyone who knows the story behind the Z1000R, which is now no longer available, can largely fill in what distinguishes the Z900SE from the basic version. The cure is in fact almost identical: a slightly more sporty bicycle section. For example, you will no longer find a set of axially mounted Nissin four-piston calipers at the front, but high-end Brembo M4.32 monobloc stoppers, complete with steel braided brake lines.
The suspension also received an upgrade, in the form of an Öhlins S46 rear shock absorber, with adjustable rebound damping and spring preload. The latter is done a lot easier by means of a hydraulic adjustment knob than on the standard machine, where you have to work with a screw swivel. The fully adjustable front fork is identical to that of the regular Z900. Which also applies to the performance, the 948cc four-in-line is also in SE trim, so again good for a maximum of 125 hp and 98.6 newton meters. In short, nothing to complain about muscles.
And then there is of course something else, the SE, like all other SE’s from the Kawa house, also gets a special black/green color. In combination with the gold-colored fork legs (standard is black), it is clearly recognizable from a distance.
The new Kawasaki Z900SE will be available at the dealer from the end of December, the price will be announced at a later stage. Info: www.kawasaki.nl
