The latest firmware update for Nintendo Switch is now available for download, reported Nintendo. After the update, it is for the first time possible to send audio via Bluetooth from the Switch. However, there are some limitations when using this function.
For example, users who pair their wireless earbuds with the Switch can only use two wireless controllers at the same time. Normally, up to four wireless controllers can be used simultaneously with the Switch.
Function took a long time
It is also not possible to use the microphone of a bluetooth headset or earplugs. If you want to use speech in multiplayer games, you must do so via a mobile app on Android or iPhone. One Bluetooth audio device can be connected to the Switch at a time, but the game console can remember up to ten such devices.
The bluetooth audio function is available for all versions of the Switch and the Switch Lite, and will be available after the latest update. The addition of the feature has been so long in coming that an entire industry has sprung up around Bluetooth dongles for the Switch, with which it was already possible to pair wireless earbuds or headphones.
PlayStation and Xbox are still not working
A lack of support for wireless audio is quite common with game consoles. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S also do not support audio over Bluetooth as standard. It is possible with those game consoles to connect wired headphones to the wireless controller, and there are many headphones with the supplied dongle.
