The Federal Police today arrested another suspect of participating in the bank robbery in Araçatuba (SP), on August 30th. With this detention, the number of prisoners reaches eight.
The agents served 20 search and seizure warrants and one for temporary arrest this morning in the cities of São Paulo, Campinas, Piracicaba, Guarulhos and Araçatuba. The warrants were issued by the 1st Federal Court in Araçatuba.
The temporarily arrested suspect was interrogated and sent to the local prison, and will remain at the disposal of the Federal Court. Further details of the arrest were not released.
So far, eight arrests have been made, and four suspects remain in custody. Last week, a suspect in financing the robberies was released after going through a custody hearing. The court understood that there was not enough evidence to link him to the attack in the interior of São Paulo.
Three bank branches were attacked by heavily armed criminals in the central region of Araçatuba in the early hours of August 30th. Two bank branches had their cashiers damaged by the action of explosives and other branches were hit by firearms. Three people died, including two townspeople, and four were injured.
