The Champions League is back! And right at the start, the premier class has a lot to offer: In the game between FC Sevilla and RB Salzburg there were four (!) Penalties in the first half alone.
If you think you’ve already seen it all … then Alexey Kulbakov comes along and hands out penalties every minute. The Belarusian referee pointed to the point four times within half an hour in the game between Seville and Salzburg (with the help of the VAR)!
The first three penalties were awarded to the guests from Austria, who were considered an underdog before kick-off, but dictated the game at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for a long time.
Germany’s shooting star Karim Adeyemi was the first to try in the 13th minute, but the youngster shot the ball next to the goal. His teammate Luka Sucic did better (at first!), Who eight minutes later was able to convert the Red Bulls’ second penalty and put his team 1-0 ahead.
In the 37th minute, Salzburg was finally awarded the third penalty – all taken out by Adeyemi, by the way. The young German wanted to compete a second time and make up for his faux pas from the initial phase. But because Sucic was successful with his penalty, he was allowed to play again. But this time he failed at the post! What a drama.
Five minutes later, Sevilla FC were allowed to take part in the penalty shoot-out. Ivan Rakitic was able to accommodate the (rather soft) penalty kick in the Salzburg box without any effort and set it to an extremely flattering 1: 1 from Seville’s point of view.
What a crazy half!
According to choose it is the first time since 2003/04 (the start of data collection) that there have been four penalties in one half. It is almost certain that this has never happened before!
