Schalke come out of their international break with a win: S04 only just wins the away game at SC Paderborn 1-0, but ultimately deserves it. Once again it is Simon Terodde who shoots his team to victory.
“We have to take advantage of the international break. Then we will take a significant step forward.” Words that Dimitrios Grammozis had deliberately weighted heavily. With the corresponding expectations, the Schalke 04 fans also went into the game against SC Paderborn.
First of all: Royal Blue did not win the game too convincingly, but still deservedly won 1-0. Of course, it was Simon Terodde who shot his team in the lead in the 63rd minute and thus to a three. It is and will remain irreplaceable for the royal blue construct. However, not only a victory was targeted, but also a playful progress.
In the first half, Schalke was pretty sedate. Improvements in the game with the ball were hardly noticeable. Rather, it stayed with the offensive piecemeal, as it was also seen in the previous games. The Grammozis-Elf has not yet taken the “clear step forward”.
The at least temporary lack of progress in one’s own game will also have to remain an issue – regardless of the victory in the NRW duel. Only a few teams will offer a comparatively large number of rooms, as the hosts did with their primarily counterattacking game. Then Schalke has to have solutions ready that explicitly do not only relate to the individual class.
The second half, however, was noticeably more energetic from S04’s point of view. More suitable processes, better room layout and of course a Terodde. The 33-year-old is simply a force in the 2nd Bundesliga. One that some fans are already referring to as the coach’s life insurance policy.
After the preparatory work of the tireless Marius Bülter, the thoroughbred striker was able to score again. His seventh (!) Goal of the season in the sixth game – the two other templates should not be withheld.
Grammozis of course also had words of praise for him: “With Simon, the composure of age plays a role. He knows that he has to be patient, even if he is not in the game for half a time.”
Due to the 1-0 success, the Gelsenkircheners move to seventh place in the table after six match days. However, that sounds even worse than it is: only three points are missing before the championship lead, which Jahn Regensburg has still secured for himself.
A close but well-deserved victory. The major and still necessary improvements were still not there on this Sunday afternoon. This needs to be emphasized so clearly because the three points should not obscure it. So Grammozis remains in focus despite a little increasing relaxation after two wins. After all, it needs a constant upward curve.
“From now on it really starts. In the second division you have to deliver every week,” the coach emphasized later. Which of course he is right. Accordingly, Schalke cannot rely on their own quality – it must continue to be brought to the field through clear possible solutions.
For now, however, the S04 fans can look forward to a successful performance. Coming out of the break with a good feeling could bring a little more energy to the team and coaching team.
