A parade of stars to accompany the 2021 class in the Olympus of basketball. Emotion for Bosh, laughter with Toni: the best of the evening
Four months after the introduction of the class of 2020, the Hall of Fame welcomes the group of the “class of 2021”, in a calendar upset by the pandemic. Sixteen new names then find their place in Springfield, earning basketball immortality. From Chris Bosh to Paul Pierce, passing through Ben Wallace, Chris Webber, Jay Wright, Rick Adelman, Toni Kukoc then the legendary Bill Russell also introduced as a coach (he is already naturally in the Hall of Fame as a player), Yolanda Griffith, Lauren Jackson, Pearl Moore, Bob Dandridge, Clarence Jenkins to close with Val Ackerman, Cotton Fitzsimmons and Howard Garfinkel.
A special evening with a parade of stars to accompany the 2021 class of basketball in the Olympus of basketball. Very touching are the words of Chris Bosh, who had to close his career too early, at 31, due to blood clots first in the lungs then in a calf. “After having managed to climb the mountain and feel that we still have so much to give to this sport – says the former Heat under the eyes of James and Wade – everything has stopped. It wasn’t easy but I realized that we all have the opportunity to take the best out of every day and to turn difficulties into opportunities ”.
Here is Toni
Alongside Michael Jordan, on the other hand, Toni Kukoc talked about his first impact with his future mates at the Bulls MJ and Pippen, in Barcelona. “I have to thank them for giving me a good refresher at the Olympics – underlines the Croatian former Benetton Treviso – they taught me so many things and made me understand that I should have worked much harder. I carry two places in my heart, Split, one of the most important sports cities in the world, and Chicago and I also want to thank my historic agent, recently passed away (last March 2nd) Luciano Capicchioni ”.
Full of pitfalls also the basketball path of Ben Wallace who becomes the first NBA player not chosen in the draft to enter the Hall of Fame. An extraordinary career that began among the pros but with the cut, after a very short period, in Reggio Calabria in 1996 and then took his first steps in the NBA with Wizards and Magic before the explosion in Detroit. “I have to say thanks to basketball – says the four-time defender of the year in the NBA – I was able to build my path against all expectations thanks to my determination”. There is also space for a video of former President Barack Obama, a huge basketball fan of course, introducing legend Bill Russell. “Bill knows more than anyone else what it means to win, but despite what he has done on the court and on the bench is extraordinary, as a person he is worth much more. A true example for everyone to follow ”.
Very funny, however, the speech of Paul Pierce who, in the style of Michael Jordan, does not send them to tell those who had not succumbed to him post-college career. “I want to thank the nine teams who snubbed me in the draft – says the former Celtics, mentioning the clubs one by one – you have given me an extra incentive to excel in the NBA”. A truly unforgettable evening that therefore accompanies the “class of 2021” in history.
