In recent weeks, the Internet has been filled with a debate about whether the new PlayStation 5 model is worse because it has a smaller heatsink and expels more heat. Many people have decided to do tests to put their spoon in the discussion and now there is one that ensures that the new PlayStation 5 keeps its SoC at a lower temperature, but the opposite happens with the rest of the components.
The HardwareBusters channel published a video in which it compared the new model of PlayStation 5 with the old one. It is worth mentioning that both consoles have the same fan model, so there is no difference there and this is reflected in the speed at which both ran in the tests. Something that is striking is that the new model turned out to be louder (24.8 decibels of the old model against 25.9 decibels of the new model).
Using tools to measure hardware temperatures, the youtuber discovered that the new PlayStation 5 keeps its SoC at a lower temperature. To be exact, the chip in the original model was running at 51.15 ° C, while the one in the new model was running at 40.08 ° C.
Now this is not to say that the new model is necessarily better. After all, its temperature is higher in the SSD (40.88 C ° / 48.2 C °), in the VRM (44.97 C ° / 46.32 C °) and in the air outlet (39.85 C ° / 42.11 C °).
It is worth mentioning that the temperature was measured after running the same scene from Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition for 30 minutes on both consoles.

Something to keep in mind that this test was done with a very small sample, so it should not be used as a definitive result either. That said, the reality is that these and other tests seem to point out that the new PlayStation 5 model has a thermal solution that works despite the fact that the heatsink is smaller than the original model.
Another point to keep in mind is that these types of tests – as with a thermal camera – are less reliable than records made by professionals, so they should not be seen as hard data. In this way, the really important thing is that no temperatures have been detected that are worrying with the new model of PlayStation 5.
What did you think of this test? Do you think the difference in temperature between the models is important? Tell us in the comments.
