NASA hopes that its experiments and tests on the “flying taxi” will enhance mobility in the US airspace, and help integrate air taxis, drones and other innovative new vehicles into the national mobility system.
NASA’s initial tests include evaluating the performance of the flying vehicle in terms of responding to the pilot and voice commands.
According to the Gizmodo website, which specializes in scientific and technical news, Joby Aviation hopes to launch its own air taxis in 2024, after meeting the criteria set by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Joby Aviation vehicle relies on 6 zero-emission electric motors, has a maximum speed of 321 kilometers per hour, and can fly 241 kilometers on a single charge.
The boat can accommodate a driver and 4 passengers, and customers will be able to book their flights on board through a dedicated smartphone application.
