Physician Klaus Wietzke Brodbeck, 54, was indicted for rape and five other crimes against 21 women in Porto Alegre (RS) this Thursday (12). “He will be liable for sexual harassment, sexual harassment, rape, rape of a vulnerable person, coercion in the course of the process and sexual violation through fraud”, explains delegate Jeiselaure Souza, who referred the procedure to Justice
More than 70 occurrences were registered at the Police Specialized in Assistance to Women (Deam) during the investigation. The victims are mostly from Rio Grande do Sul, but there are cases in other states, such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Minas Gerais. “Since the work gained repercussion, many women gathered courage and sought us out to denounce the crimes committed by him”, says the delegate. In the beginning, there were 12 cases. A month later – the operation took place on July 13 – the number of complaints reaches 127.
“We identified 127 women, 24 of whom were heard as witnesses,” explains Jeiselaure. Another 103 were abused and 47 had prescribed crimes. In addition, 27 are victims who live outside Rio Grande do Sul, so the investigation is under the responsibility of the specialized police station in their states. “Here more than 70 occurrences have been made since we started the work.”
Amanda Vasconcellos, the doctor’s girlfriend, who went to social networks to threaten those who reported the professional to the police, will be indicted for coercion in the course of the process and threat. Klaus has been in prison since July 16, after a preventive arrest warrant was issued by the 2nd Criminal Court in the capital. He is segregated at the Sapucaia do Sul State Penitentiary, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre.
Victims were submitted to the forensics
Since July 22, 15 victims have been referred and seven have attended the Department of Psychic Expertise in Adults, of the Medical-Legal Department (DML), as a way to substantiate the complaints made against the doctor. The expert reports have already been sent to the Women’s Police Station and are part of the evidentiary complex. In the oldest case, the abuse would have occurred 20 years ago. Jeiselaure points out that the forensics carried out on the victims by the General Institute of Forensics were fundamental to the investigation.
The head of the Special Expertise Division at the DML, Angelita Machado Rios, says that psychic expertise is indicated in cases where there is no materiality, that is, there are no more forensic traces that can be analyzed. “When a traumatic event occurs, the victim can remember the facts and their consequences for a long time.”
In new testimony, doctor denies crimes
The Civil Police heard the doctor again on the morning of Thursday (12), in the jail he has been in since he was arrested. He denied all crimes committed. The plastic surgeon’s defense, formed by lawyers Erial Lopes de Haro and Diego Cabral, issued a statement and even emphasized that one of the victims “is a person who had a loving relationship” with the professional. The defense considers it “doubtful” that Klaus has “abused these women” and that they have followed through with the consultations. According to the note, “the majority of complainants performed procedures, had rejection problems, left dissatisfied with the procedure and filed damages against the doctor between 2014 and 2015, but did not mention acts of abuse”.
About Amanda, the doctor’s companion, the defense claims that she is suffering an action, but was taken by “emotion” to “preserve” the doctor. “She was elated, but she had no intention of threatening or threatening someone’s life, she intended to defend Klaus,” the lawyers say.
