Dan-Axel Zagadou’s period of suffering will continue for a while: The Frenchman doesn’t expect a return until autumn. He can well imagine an extension at BVB.
Dan-Axel Zagadou has been wearing the black and yellow Borussia Dortmund jersey for four years. During this time, the defender became a crowd favorite and even received his own fan song. But things have calmed down around him in the last few months; Injuries suddenly stopped its rapid development.
The 22-year-old only played 380 minutes of competitive play in all competitions last season, slowed down by stubborn knee problems. Most of the time he had to watch from the stands as his teammates delivered a wild rollercoaster ride, but at the end of the day they celebrated a conciliatory conclusion with the CL qualification and the cup victory.
Even at the beginning of the new season, ‘Daxo’ will not be able to intervene again. At a press round during the Dortmund training camp, he revealed (via Ruhr news) that he still needs some time and expects “that I will be fit again in two or three months”.
The Dortmund problem child stated that they had already had a promising conversation with Marco Rose. “He told me that he was looking forward to being on the pitch again, that he knew me as a player type. And he wished me all the best for my further rehab,” said Zagadou, who also announced that it was he is fine and he is on schedule. “I’m happy to be back with the team now after my vacation.”
Due to the persistent injury problems, they have already “analyzed where the reasons for the injuries were, whether and how we can avoid them”. In principle, failures can of course never be ruled out, but in order to be better equipped in the future, he tries to “warm up particularly intensively” and to carry out “special exercises to stabilize the joints”. At the age of 22, Zagadou had enough absences. “Unfortunately I have had enough experience not being able to play,” he said sarcastically.
In addition to his return to the green turf, Zagadou’s contractual future is also in focus. His current working paper expires next summer – an unfavorable position in which BVB has gotten as a result.
But the Frenchman said that he could well imagine an extension should the club approach him: “I don’t know how things will continue. Of course, I know that the contract will expire next summer. BVB gives me the chance given to prove myself as a professional. If the club sees it like me, I would be very happy to stay with Borussia Dortmund. ”
Now the ball lies with Michael Zorc and Sebastian Kehl, who will probably first wait for Zagadou’s comeback and possibly further setbacks.
