Chelsea legend John Terry has decided to step down from his position as assistant manager of Aston Villa. Terry spent three years with Villa as Dean Smith’s right-hand man. So what is the reason Terry decided to withdraw?
So far, it is not known what the next plan for the former England defender is. However, many predict that Terry will become a manager. So far West Bromwich Albion and Bristol City are the two clubs that are reportedly interested.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to spend three years with Aston Villa. But now I feel this is the right time to make the difficult decision to leave,” Terry said at his farewell speech as quoted by Goal.
“I respect the manager and everyone at Aston Villa and I’ve thought about it a lot over the summer. For the future in the near future I want to spend time with my family,” he continued.
“It has always been my ambition to have a career as a football manager, moreover I have had several opportunities for that. I feel ready to take up the challenge. Lastly, I would like to thank the players and staff. I wish you the best, thank you,” he concluded.
