Code orange has been announced for West Flanders by the RMI, the Belgian weather institute. Code yellow applies to the rest of the country. In addition to heavy showers, thunderstorms are also expected.
In the past month, things have gone very wrong in Belgium because of the bad weather. A few weeks ago, at least 37 people were killed in the east of the country. And this weekend too, things went wrong in the Namur and Brussels regions.
1,000 times out
In Namur, the fire brigade had to turn out about 1000 times within a day, says the national news channel VRT. The images below show how intense it was:
It will probably take days before the rubble is cleared and buildings are pumped out.
In Brussels, the fire brigade received dozens of reports. Eighteen had to intervene because roads were flooded, and another fifteen cellars had to be pumped out.
