His body is covered in burns. The most severe on the muzzle and fingertips. He could have saved himself from those flames that are ravaging Sardinia, avoiding these wounds that will mark his body forever. But he is no ordinary dog. He is a sheepdog. He is that dog who has to organize and protect his flock. And so he did not go away, did not abandon his role and got stuck on a wall.
Over 20 thousand hectares of land, woods, olive groves and cultivated fields have been reduced to ashes, farms devastated, houses damaged. The balance of the gigantic fire that broke out in Montiferru, in the Oristano area, is very heavy. And to this, to the more than 1500 people displaced, there is also the tragedy of animals: the numbers are not known, but there are many images of animals burned alive or dead suffocated by inhaled smoke.
This dog, found in Tresnuraghes, will make it thanks to the prompt intervention of Angelo Delogu, the veterinarian who saved him: «He stood still on the wall while the flames enveloped him – he writes on Facebook -. No, I didn’t suppress it because it will heal. He does not have the chip, I doubt that will happen but if anyone recognizes him, let him hear himself ».
Now the poor animal has been stabilized and transferred to the Duemari Veterinary Clinic for hospitalization, which is one of the symbols of hope in this drama.
