Geoffrey Kondogbia has not started the preseason on the right foot with Atlético de Madrid. The French midfielder has tested positive for Covid-19 after undergoing an additional PCR as he planned to travel outside of Spain on the two days off that Simeone had given his footballers.
As soon as the result was known, the rojiblanco club activated the health protocol designed for this type of situation. The player was isolated from the rest of his teammates, he missed the first preparation friendly against Numancia in El Burgo de Osma and had to return only to Madrid where he will serve the quarantine of at least 10 days at home. Therefore, Kondogbia will also miss the next two friendlies of this preseason against Salzburg in Austria and Wolfsburg in Germany that will be played on the 28th and 31st respectively.
All the players in the red-and-white squad underwent an antigen test and all were negative, including Kondogbia himself, who later tested positive in that additional PCR that was done.
Kondogbia will have to remain at his home in Madrid and will not be able to go to work with the rest of his colleagues until he presents a test with a negative result.
On August 4, Atlético de Madrid will play its fourth pre-season friendly in Cádiz against the Cádiz team in the Carranza Trophy and by that date Kondogbia could already be available.
