The man with Lebanese nationality was checked on Wednesday at Elten, Germany, just west of Gelderland.
When officers asked him if he had more than 10,000 euros in cash, the man denied. Moments later, they found shopping bags full of money in his trunk. Notes were also found behind the car radio.
Fine of 1 million
The money has been seized by the police. After consultation with the public prosecutor, it was decided that the motorist was allowed to continue driving. An investigation into him is still ongoing.
When entering Germany and when leaving Germany, cash with a value of 10,000 euros or more must be reported to customs. If this does not happen, you can be fined up to one million euros.
