PSV took a first step towards the main tournament of the Champions League on Wednesday evening. The people of Eindhoven won in their own stadium, in the second preliminary round, more than 5-1 against Galatasaray. The return in Turkey is next week.
Eran Zahavi scored three times for PSV. After just under two minutes, the Israeli striker took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera: 1-0. On a pass from Noni Madueke, Zahavi made it 2-0 about thirty minutes later. Galatasaray scored shortly before half time via Emre Kilinç against.
PSV ran further shortly after the break. Zahavi also turned out to have an assist in his legs: with a quick foot movement he set Mario Götze free in front of the goal in the 51st minute. The German curled the ball nicely into the top corner. Zahavi himself took care of the 4-1 in the final phase, and then it was again up to Götze in the 88th minute.
PSV must survive three preliminary rounds to reach the main tournament.
