After Dominick Drexler, FC Schalke made another commitment on Wednesday: With Martin Fraisl, S04 introduced a new goalkeeper before the HSV game, as announced.
Ralf Fährmann’s corona illness caused the Schalke bosses to rethink at short notice. Actually, the relegated had wanted to sign a young goalkeeper in the coming weeks, who should complete the goalkeeping team with the experienced ferryman and Langer. But now the motto “quality before age” applied – and that quickly.
Rouven Schröder’s choice fell on Martin Fraisl, who had been without a contract since July 1st and does not cost any transfer. Schalke initially equips the keeper with a contract until the end of the season.
“Due to the events of the past few days, we had an urgent need for action in the goalkeeping position. Martin Fraisl was extremely motivated and impressed when we talked to him about a commitment at Schalke 04. He had a very good one last season after moving to The Hague played a good half-season in the Eredivisie. We are convinced that he will be a strong and ambitious challenger for Michael and Ralf, “said Schröder, explaining the decision for the 28-year-old Austrian.
Fraisl adds: “I will use the few days until the game against Hamburg to get to know the team and processes as well as possible so that I am ready for anything. I am looking forward to my time in Royal Blue.”
