The Health Secretary of the State of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, stated that a new vaccination cycle against the coronavirus will start on January 17, 2022 in the state.
“Just as we do with the flu, this new phase of immunization against Covid will start on January 17th of next year. It was exactly the day that we vaccinated the first Brazilian woman here in São Paulo, Mônica Calazans”, said the secretary.
It was on this date that the first Brazilian to be vaccinated in Brazil, the nurse Mônica Calazans, received the first dose of the Coronavac vaccine in the state of São Paulo.
Gorinchteyn said this is not a booster shot. In other words, starting in January of next year, the entire population of São Paulo will begin to be vaccinated again.
“This is not a booster. This is a need that we have to be always, annually, giving protection. We call it a booster vaccine when I use a third or fourth dose. We are following the prerogative of vaccines for respiratory viruses like da flu, which annually receive an immunization,” he said.
According to the secretary, the expectation is that the Ministry of Health and Conass (National Council of Health Secretaries) also have the understanding that it is necessary to start the new cycle in January. The government of São Paulo, however, will initiate vaccination regardless of a consensus, he said.
“The state of São Paulo will surely start a new campaign on January 17th of next year. We understand that in this articulation, together with the Ministry of Health and Conass, [que eles] they will also have this understanding, so that we can expand this new phase of vaccination not only to São Paulo, but to the whole country.”
The speech took place this Monday (19), during the delivery of 1 million doses of Coronavac to the Ministry of Health.
It is the fifth delivery that the Butantan Institute makes to the PNI (National Immunization Plan) this month. In all, about 54.1 million doses were shipped.
The last four deliveries were part of a batch of 10 million doses that Butantan began sending to the Ministry of Health this month.
By the end of August, the state government intends to deliver the 100 million doses ordered by the federal government, bringing forward by one month the initial deadline, which was September 30th.
Butantan is also working on the production of a new vaccine against Covid-19, Butanvac. According to the Secretary of Health, there are already 20 million doses already produced waiting to be filled.
“When, after 17 weeks of study, you become consecrated by the [Anvisa] National Health Surveillance Agency, safety and effectiveness for protection against Covid-19, immediately we will already have 40 million doses of the vaccine that will be made available to all Brazilians, initially in the state of São Paulo”, he said.
The vice-governor, Rodrigo Garcia, took the opportunity to update the state of health of Governor João Doria, who received the diagnosis of Covid-19 last week.
According to Garcia, Doria had only mild symptoms and is currently asymptomatic, dispatching from a distance.
This Monday, the vaccination of people between 30 and 34 years old in the state of São Paulo begins. Then, on August 5th, it will be the turn of those between 25 and 29 years old. Finally, on August 13th, adults between 18 and 24 years old can receive the application.
